How High Can a Straddle Carrier Lift a Container?

Image
A straddle carrier can typically lift containers high enough for 2-high, 3-high, or 4-high stacking , depending on its lifting-frame design and the required yard configuration. For modern container-handling applications, lifting heights of approximately 8–12 m are a practical range, while a specific machine may be engineered for a different height. For example, published technical specifications show configurations with 9.1 m lifting height for 3-high stacking and 12.0 m for 4-high stacking . Other straddle carrier specifications list lifting heights from 8 to 12 m for 3- to 4-container-high stacking. However, “How high can a straddle carrier lift a container?” is not simply a question about the maximum height in meters. The required lifting height depends on container height, stacking level, gross container weight, spreader configuration, lifting mechanism, and available yard clearance . For a container yard, the more useful question is usually: How many containers high does the s...
